Rockgel
Introduction
In the ongoing effort of trimmers and farriers to help horses through transition I started using a hard setting gel (Rockgel) in areas on the insensitive tissue like sole, wall and frog.
It helps form a toughened layer on the hoof which in turn helps with the increased medial / lateral movement and adds protection to thin soles.
The 3g Rockgel tubes (one will do 2 feet) are available from the shop
I have used Rockgel successfully on a case of sarcoidosis where the bottom half of the foot was so weak it was coming away from the top. (Below)
The Rockgel gave a protecting seal that enabled the hoof to be supported.
The sole and frog of the hoof was also very weak so was also given a Rockgel layer
